My Decision

Previously I posted a board asking about what to get my friend for Valentine's Day. Well, I made my decision! I am going to get him a Braille watch, since that is something he is needing right now, and he wants it. Does anyone know anything about men's Braille watches? Apparently the face is a bit smaller, so I'm not sure if it may be harder for him to be able to feel the hands on it. Can someone help me out? Also about how much would it cost? As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ashley

Hmmm, I thought men's braille watches are larger than the ladies...? Check out independent living aids or maxiaids.

The National Federation of the Blind also has good watches.
You might want to buy a new watch band for the watch no matter where you buy it, though. All the bands that come on the watches I've purchased over the years are pretty cheaply made.

Well I checked the nfb site, and their men's watches are about 40 to 50 bucks, so I was wondering if there might be anything a little cheaper. My original plan was to get it at the warehouse in Austin, which they cost about 26 there, or somewhere around that price range area, but i cant seem to get a phone number to find out the exact price, so I just wanted to see what is out there. Also, they say on the nfb site that those watches are 1 inch face? So supposedly the ladies' watch is bigger, but I thought the men's were bigger too?

Well, believ me, the men's watches do have a larger face, for which I'm very thankful. You're wise to shop around for prices. I haven't bought a braille watch for several years. (knock on wood, mine has lasted about five or six years.) I can't speak to price, but as previously suggested, check out ILA or Maxiaids.

I have a braille watch, but I thought the men's were bigger than the ladies. Mine cost 44£ and my other watch which is talking and braille cost 36£, but I know you can definitely get braille watches for 12£ or so here in the UK, or at least you could two years ago. I know that's cheap and the straps on those can be kind of rubbish, so ...

Ok I am going to look at maxiaids or independent living aids. Anyone have the addresses? Or any other good sites anyone knows of? i want to check around online. By the way, I've got the number to the warehouse, but I want to see where I can get the cheapest one.
